WHAT IS COVERED

Ambulance Service

Costs are fully covered for licensed ambulance service to or from the nearest hospital, skilled nursing facility or hospice where the covered patient can get needed medical care or treatment. Ambulance travel from a hospital to a skilled nursing facility is also covered 100%. Use of an ambulance when not medically necessary, or when a lower cost mode of transport would be sufficient, is not covered. (Click here for the definition of medically necessary care.) Air ambulance service will be covered only when the requirement for air transport is necessitated by a valid emergency and only this form of transport will accomplish the medically necessary delivery of the patient to an adequate treatment setting.
