Pensioner Benefits
Members Who Retired Prior to October 1, 2004
Any Member who retired prior to October 1, 2004, or who retired under the special provisions for the “window” retirement during the period October 1, 2004, through April 1, 2005, is eligible for MILA benefits in retirement if the Member:
- Retired from active service as a bargaining unit Member, is receiving a pension plan from a local port longshore pension fund negotiated by employers and the union based upon service as a bargaining unit Member and is eligible for a pensioner welfare benefit under the rules of the local port in effect on September 30, 1996; and
- Retired fromactive service as a non-bargaining unit Member who participated in the MILA National Health Plan, the former employer is still covered by the Plan under a Participation Agreement and provided retirement health benefits on September 30, 1996 .
Your dependents, including your surviving spouse, may also be eligible for pensioner benefits. Whether your dependents are eligible for benefits provided by the MILA National Health Plan depends on the rules of your local port that were in effect on September 30, 1996 or whether the MILA Plan has been amended to provide benefits for dependents in your port.
